Air Jordan 1
Shattered Backboard

Project Information

In the summer of ’85, Michael Jordan traveled to Trieste, Italy for what was meant to be a friendly exhibition game. But “friendly” and “exhibition” were never part of MJ’s vocabulary. Late in the game, he rose up for a dunk so forceful it shattered the backboard, sending glass raining down and cementing a story that would echo through sneaker and sports culture for decades.

Originally inspiring the 2015 Air Jordan 1 “Shattered Backboard,” the moment returns ahead of the shoe’s 2025 re-release at Teatro di Jordan, the flyest puppet theater around. Through handcrafted sets, dramatic staging, and old-world theatrical charm, the film reimagines the myth with playful reverence, turning a gravity-defying dunk into a larger-than-life fable and reminding a new generation how one backboard-shattering moment changed the game forever.
